More about Moog.
Moog Kim, Co-Founder at Greatstone Wealth
Where are you from?
I was born in Atlanta, Georgia but I moved around quite a bit in my early years before settling down in the suburbs of Mason, Ohio. The beautiful mountains of Colorado are where I now call home but I think the energy of the Midwest is something that will always resonate with me.
Why are you in this new business?
I’ve always had a passion for helping people and a drive for making a difference in other’s lives. Growing up, I wanted to work in the medical field and I wouldn’t have guessed that finance would be my means of making a difference.
But then you start to notice clients reinvesting into their passions through the tax savings put back into their pockets. The feeling of someone’s anxiety lifted or an added sense of security through setting the proper insurances and protections in place for their families. The progress in their financial journey and achieving their goals through proper comprehensive financial planning. And that to me is powerful.
While each of our team members offers such unique personalities and skills to bring to the table, the fact that we also share the same values and core principles, are constantly eager to learn and improve, and genuinely enjoy each other's company, is a recipe for something that I’m very excited to see what it will grow into.
What do you do for clients?
First and foremost is to listen. I want to understand your unique situation, what principles are important to you, and define what goals I can help you reach.
Then, we’ll evaluate your current situation and inform you with solution options to develop a plan that you understand and feel great about. By regularly reviewing your strategies and accounts, we can monitor your progress to make sure your goals are staying on track throughout major life changes and market cycles.
What is your professional background?
I graduated from the University of Cincinnati’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Finance. Afterwards, I moved to Colorado where I continued to work as a bookkeeper at an independent maintenance company where I was in charge of managing their company financials, payroll, and taxes.
I furthered my education at the College for Financial Planning and fulfilled all the necessary requirements to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional. During this time, I worked for nearly four years in a planning role for a top-quality tax planning and wealth management firm where I developed and assisted in the implementation of the financial plans while being mentored by some of the most knowledgeable individuals in their respective spaces.
What inspires you in this business on a personal level?
This is such a great question and there are so many ways I’d want to answer this.
My dad is the first generation from my family to come over to the United States from South Korea. The ability to uproot your family in your mid 20’s, learn a new language, raise two kids, and put yourself through school all the way to a PhD could not have been an easy feat even with the help of my incredible mother.
Even when we were living in a small apartment with our family of four, I never grew up feeling like we were missing anything. Witnessing my dad achieve the American dream and taking us to the comfortable life of the suburbs of Ohio through his determination, perseverance, and great financial planning was nothing short of inspiring.
On the flip side, I’ve also seen financial struggles put major strains on different relationships sometimes ending in disastrous results. If we can help our clients avoid this heartache and instead feel empowered to take their money and beneficially affect the lives of those around them, that’s a success in my book.
What do you like to do when you are not in the office?
A healthy body leads to a healthy mind! I love to stay active whether that’s escaping to the mountains on some beautiful hikes, rock climbing, snowboarding, or simply going to the gym.
In the summer of 2023, I completed my first “couch to marathon” and although I don’t have a burning desire to do another one anytime soon, who knows what the future holds! I simply love challenging myself and pushing past the limits of my comfort zone.
